About Dr. Rigamonti


Dr. Rigamonti is a Professor Emeritus of Neurological Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.


Most recently, as the Medical Director of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, he coordinated the medical collaboration between Johns Hopkins Medicine and its several medical affiliates across the globe, for two years. Prior to this role, he was the CEO of Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH), a private not for profit organization providing healthcare to 360,000 people in Saudi Arabia. During his 5 years tenure at JHAH, Dr. Rigamonti has had a major impact not only on the care provided to the Aramco employees and their dependents, but also on the care provided in the Gulf region. Under his leadership:

JHAH added a Wellness Institute to provide Primary Care and Population Health, a Cancer Institute with state-of-the-art Radiotherapy, a Women and Children Institute and a Heart & Vascular Institute integrating Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Population health strategy was successfully implemented – focused on diabetes prevention – and was instrumental in starting a Primary Care Residency program, which is now considered the best in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Access to clinics, pharmacy and imaging services improved dramatically.

Infection rates improved significantly, and he led successful safety symposiums.

Evidence-based clinical protocols were implemented and outcome measures – relevant to patients and families – consistently documented.

The health system successfully prepared and implemented an effective response to COVID-19. In November 2019, the health system underwent a drill focused on: Emerging Infectious disease”. In 2020 he led the response team in a very timely conversion of the hospital operations from “standard mode” to “disaster mode”.   

Previously, Dr. Rigamonti was the Director of the Cerebrovascular Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 1993 – 2003, and the Director of the Radiosurgery Program and the CSF Diseases Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital from 2002 – 2015. He has published 254 Peer-reviewed scientific articles and 5 books. Dr. Rigamonti holds 5 patents and has given 162 Invited talks. He organized 12 International Conferences. Since 2019 he is a Board member of King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Health.
